Home for the Holidays!

Hey hey hey!

So it's been a little crazy these past few weeks. New classes, new teachers, new assignments, it's crazy but good!

Although it's a little crazy sometimes classes are great! I'm taking Accounting II - Managerial, Business Law I, Communications Techniques, and New Testament. They really are good classes and I would have to say that I am lalalalalaloving Comm Techniques. It's a whole lot of fun, plus I can really see myself using these things in the future, and to me that's sometimes the best part of taking a class.

So yeah, that's the exciting happening in my academic life!

I picked my sister up from the airport the day we finished for break and we spent the day in Erie having dinner, and watching Hockey... it was great!

Now I'm home for the holidays and it's awesome. I have more than missed having a break and being able to enjoy time with my family. I am really looking forward to when my oldest sister comes home from Boston on Christmas Eve.

We start back for classes on Jan. 3 and that's also when I start my internship with the Erie SeaWolves... again. I'm looking forward to going back and getting more experience in my field.

This internship was the best thing I have done so far within my major. Yeah it's stressful, it's crazy intense, it's long hours, but it is the best experience that I could have ever asked for!

Not only is this an exciting time for myself, but I'm sure you guys are too. Yeah it's the holidays, Christmas breaks are coming up, but I know that when I was a senior in High School this was about the time that I was really starting the pick and choose process of where I wanted to go to college.

So Happy Holidays! Hope it's a good one!

F.I.N.A.L.S and a Fresh Start

Finals time already!!

GAHHHH, I honestly have no idea how this happened so quickly but I just had my last class of the term?!?!? Ummm I am not o.k with that. Three days of finals stand between me and a giant table piled with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and the greatest people I have in my life... a.k.a my family.

This term has been hectic and crazy and busy and I can say that I have learned way more than a lot. And I am already looking forward to next term starting already.

I am also REALLY looking forward to something that many people in Erie wouldn't mind going without... winter!

It is BY FAR my favorite season. You get all the great stuff, Christmas decorations, SNOW, blankets, cool hats and mittens, boots, hot chocolate, and my favorite COLLEGE BASKETBALL!!

That's right peeps I am a fanatic of college basketball, more specifically the DUKE BLUE DEVILS!

I am also really looking forward to starting my internship again in January. I will be keeping you updated on being an intern and a full time student, because believe you me, it is the hardest craziest, most intense thing; and you will love it.. at least i did/do.

O.K. There really isn't a lot more to say except GO LAKERS (PSAC Championship Football game THIS SATURDAY!) and fingers crossed finals go well!

Rachel's thought of the week: Check out Tyler Ward (youtube) not only does this guy do amazing covers he has some spectacular original pieces as well, and totally worth checking out!

Hello.. November?!

November already?!? WOW! Really where does the time go these days? It honestly feels like I just got here and was starting classes. Needless to say I wouldn't mind things slowing down.. just a bit.. FINALS ARE COMING!! The

Ok here's the thing guys I had an Epiphany. What did I realize? I realized that Mercyhurst teachers are awesome! Ok ok I already knew that but lately it's been made extremely clear.

First of all I am taking this core class (Because we're a liberal arts school you have to take core classes along with ones that go along with your major) and it's called British Classes. AND IT'S AMAZING. Well the class is alright, but my professor Dr. Roessner makes it so incredibly awesome!

Secondly, I'm not going to lie to y'all numbers and myself DO NOT MIX! I am currently taking Accounting I and I honestly thought that it was going to be the death of me. Again my AMAZINGLY AWESOME teacher Ms. Hanes actually makes me understand everything... yes that is a first!

My Public Speaking teacher Dr. Zaphiris is pretty freaking cool too, she if possible makes giving presentations fun. TRUST ME ON THIS ON GUYS!

One of the things that I learned after having college classes is to not write off a class just because "you're not good at it" honestly all you probably have to do is put a little extra work into that subject and you'll get it. And it'll feel that much better getting the grade because you worked at it. (Plus if you go to Mercyhurst all the teachers, especially the kick butt ones in the business school are always willing to help!!)

Rachel's thought of the week: Always say please and thank you. (And if you come to Mercyhurst take Penny Hanes for any accounting class you can! :] )

Back to Reality

Ok, so here is a quick post after a long morning drive back to Erie, Penna.

I just got back from seeing my sister Bekah in Norfolk VA. (Stay tuned for photos!!) It was the most amazing trip! My mom and I went together so that was really fun, and we had a great time going on mini "adventures" on the way down.

While we were there we went to the zoo, and to the beach, and to see some lighthouses, all in all it was fantastic.

So how does this even pertain to life as a college student? Well here it is, remember to take time for yourself. I am constantly going to meetings, and work, and group projects, all on-top of class and it's easy to forget to slow down and breathe. When you have the chance to step back for a few, DO IT! It's really important to be able to collect your thoughts once in a while and not burn yourself out. You may be young, but contrary to popular belief we are not invincible.

Rachel's thought of the week/day: Smile. :)

This long distance thing is REALLY killing me smalls.

What up cronies?!?!

Ok so here's what you missed last week in the life of Rachel:

First things first I started writing for our campus newspaper the Merciad. I'm writing for the sport department so I'm pretty excited about being able to use some of the articles in my professional portfolio. It might seem lame but trust me, take ANY and EVERY chance you get to enhance your resume.

Since I'm the RA of the apartment building I live in it's my job to make it be all fun and exciting. So I made a new Halloween bulletin board and new decorations for the doors. I'll post pictures asap!!

Other than that I have been crazy missing my family this week more than most. But the good part about that is that I am going to see my BEST FRIEND (and sister) in one week! My mom and I are going to see her in Virgina next Thursday and I have not been more excited in quite sometime!

In other news I got a fish this week! He is a beautiful beta fish named Hamilton (name courtesy of my friend Killa B :) Anyway Ham is GREAT and really fun, believe it or not but he likes watching TV and just like his mom likes watching Sports Center before bed, so I try to leave the TV on at night. He's a great little addition to our lovely apartment!

Rachel's thought of the week: Check out the wickedly cool musician Sam Adams, a.k.a Boston's Boy!!

Peace Homies.

Looking Towards the Future

What Up blog watchers!?!

Ok so here's the low down, I am watching Paranormal Activity tonight and am REALLY freaked out about it. You should probably know that I am easily terrified of scary movies and nothing will make me more uncomfortable then the motion picture I will be watching later tonight. The good news however is that The Office is also on and that show is hysterical!

Speaking of scary - I have begun the v. (sometimes I put v. instead of very, in most cases it's shorter, unlike this time because I typed all this to explain) freighting process of looking into Grad Schools. GAHHHHHH! I mean it's just a fact I'm going to go so I should probably look into the places where they have my program, but I'm TWENTY YEARS OLD people! The last time I was looking at schools was when I was a Junior in High School debating on where I wanted to go for my Undergrad and now this?!? Unacceptable, these past years have flown by which is why I know that I can't rest on these laurels of mine to look into even more higher education. Although the thought of it is terrifying.

I guess there's not much I can do about it though eh? I'm excited for the possibilities, so although it is completely freaking me out, I'm really looking forward to expanding on this next chapter in my life.

The point I'm trying to make? We're in the same boat! You are looking for a place to go to school, to find that right somewhere that makes you feel comfortable, your home away from home.. and well so I am. Maybe in the long run we can help each other.

Rachel's thought of the week: Watch the show Friday Night Lights. I'm serious! It's an awesome show. WARNING: You will fall in love with Matt Saracen.

Keep it Simple

Hey Guys!!

So... Welcome to my blog!

My name is Rachel - I am a Sports Business Management major with a minor in Sports Administration. I am a Junior (holla!) from the wonderful town of Punxsutawney, PA, and a proud current resident of the always beautiful Erie, Pennsylvania.

I’m not entirely sure what the real purpose of a blog is, but this one is going to be about making your transition from high school to college easier, and how to make the most of your freshman year! Lucky for you, myself and the other dedicated Mercyhurst Bloggers have all been through this before.

The goal is to use my blog, along with the other Mercyhurst Bloggers and make life just that much easier.  Maybe by reading some of our first hand experiences it’ll settle the nerves a bit and make the idea of college sound less terrifying and scary and more exciting and fun!

Rachel’s thought of the week: Keep you’re everyday life simple. Focus on the important things first, and let the rest fall into place!
